OneDrive Scam Alert: “Your cloud storage is inactive and will soon be deleted”

Modified on Wed, 3 Dec, 2025 at 1:55 PM

A new phishing scam is circulating that appears to come from Microsoft OneDrive, warning users that:

“Your cloud storage is inactive and will soon be deleted.”

These emails look very official and often use Microsoft logos, formatting, and colors to appear legitimate. The goal is to make you panic and click the link before thinking.

What the scam looks like

Scam emails may include:

  • The message “Your cloud storage is inactive and will soon be deleted.”

  • Threats that your files will be erased within days or hours

  • Buttons such as “Keep Storage Active,” “Verify Account,” or “Prevent Deletion.”

  • Branding that looks identical to real Microsoft communications

  • A link that opens a fake Microsoft login page

Once you click the link, you are directed to a counterfeit Microsoft sign-in page that looks almost identical to the real one.
Most organizations customize their Microsoft login pages—so if the page does not look familiar, do NOT enter your credentials.

Why is this scam dangerous

  • Attackers can steal your Microsoft username and password instantly.

  • They can access your OneDrive files, emails, and other connected apps.

  • They can download sensitive documents or spread phishing messages to your contacts.

  • This access can put your entire organization at risk.

How to protect yourself

Do NOT click the link in any email claiming your storage will be deleted.
✔ Instead, go directly to Microsoft by typing these addresses into your browser:

✔ From your dashboard, check for real alerts or storage notifications.
Stop immediately if the login page looks different from your company’s normal sign-in screen.
✔ Report suspicious messages to your IT or security team.

Bottom Line

If you receive the message “Your cloud storage is inactive and will soon be deleted,” treat it as a scam.
