After recent updates to Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, some users may find that their bank check scanner stops working.
This happens because the browser now requires explicit permission for websites to access devices on your local network, including check scanners.
To restore scanner functionality, you need to enable Local Network Access for your bank’s website.
Below are the simple steps.
✅ Enable Local Network Access (Chrome & Edge) — Quick Method
You can fix the issue directly from the address bar:
Go to your bank’s check-scanning page.
Look at the left side of the address bar and click the lock icon (?) or site information icon.
In the site permissions panel, find Local Network Access.
Change the setting to Allow.
Refresh the page and try scanning again.
This method works the same way in both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
? Alternate Method (Via Settings)
(Provided in case the quick method doesn’t appear)
Google Chrome
Open Chrome.
Go to:
chrome://settings/content/localNetworkAccessClick Add under “Allowed to access your local network.”
Enter your bank’s website URL.
Refresh and test the scanner.
Microsoft Edge
Open Edge.
Go to:
edge://settings/content/localNetworkAccessClick Add under “Allow.”
Enter your bank’s website URL.
Refresh and test.
✔️ After enabling this permission
Your browser will once again allow the check scanner to communicate with your bank website, restoring normal scanning functionality.
