Laptops:
- Try unplugging your laptop's charger from the current power outlet
- Plug the charger into a different power outlet
- If the laptop works with a different power outlet, this is an outlet issue and not a laptop issue
- If this doesn't work, make sure the charger is unplugged from power
- Then remove the laptop's battery (if you can, newer models may not have this ability)
- Once the battery is removed, plug the charger back into a power outlet and try turning it on again
- If the laptop turns on without the battery, this means you have a bad battery that needs to be replaced
- Please DO NOT use your device without its battery, even if it works plugged in, you can cause corruption of the operating system
- In this case, replace your laptop's battery
- If the laptop turns on without the battery, this means you have a bad battery that needs to be replaced
- Plug the charger into a different power outlet
- If your laptop is docked in a docking station
- Restart or power cycle the docking station, by unplugging the device from power or holding down its power button
- Once restarted, try turning on your laptop again
- If it still doesn't work, remove the laptop from the docking station and try powering on the laptop by itself
Computers:
- Unplug your computer's power and try a different power outlet
- Try to avoid unplugging the computer's power and plugging it back into a power strip or battery backup that may be failing
- Confirm the switch to your computer's power supply (on the back of your computer tower) is flipped on and not turned off
- Also, confirm the power outlet being used is not tied to a light switch
- If the power outlet only works when the light switch is turned on, make sure the light switch is on and not in the off position
