How to Speed Up Windows 11 (Beginner to Advanced Guide)

1. Restart the Computer

Restarting clears memory and stops hidden background issues.

Steps

  • Click Start → Power → Restart

✅ Often fixes slowdowns immediately


2. Disable Startup Apps (Biggest Improvement)

Too many apps starting automatically slow down boot time and performance.

Steps

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc

  2. Open Startup apps

  3. Turn Off apps you don’t need immediately (Spotify, game launchers, chat apps)

⚠️ Leave antivirus software enabled


3. Set Power Mode to Best Performance

Improves speed by allowing higher CPU usage.

Steps

  1. Settings → System → Power

  2. Power mode → Best performance

? Best when plugged in


4. Turn On High Performance Power Plan

This allows your CPU to run at higher speeds.

Option A: Control Panel

  1. Press Win + R

  2. Type:

    powercfg.cpl
  3. Select High performance

    • If you don’t see it, click Show additional plans


5. Reduce Visual Effects

Disables animations that slow older or low-end PCs.

Steps

  1. Press Win + R

  2. Type:

    sysdm.cpl
  3. Go to Advanced → Performance → Settings

  4. Select Adjust for best performance

  5. (Optional) Re-enable:

    • Smooth edges of screen fonts

    • Show thumbnails instead of icons

    • Smooth-scroll list boxes

  6. Click OK


6. Speed Up Right-Click Menu (Set Delay to 0)

Windows has a built-in delay for menus.

Registry Method (Safe if done correctly)

  1. Press Win + R

  2. Type:

    regedit
  3. Go to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
  4. Find MenuShowDelay

    • Double-click it

    • Change value to:

      0
  5. Click OK

  6. Restart Explorer or reboot

⚠️ Don’t change other registry values


7. Mouse Hover Time (Tooltip Delay)

What it does: Delay before tooltips appear
Default: 400

Registry Path

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse

Value

MouseHoverTime = 0

✔ Makes UI feel snappier
✔ Cosmetic improvement
